Identification cards
Sir, —Identification cards are one of the hallmarks of the Police State where everyone has to conform to a rule for police purposes. New Zealanders should fight to the last ditch against introducing compulsory carrying of such information, even by drivers as it is only a small step to the next step of non-drivers carrying identification as well. I have just been round the world and seen police methods in many countries and rules which paralyse the majority because of a few criminals socalled. Perhaps even 10 per cent should not be accepted. Each such step is close to freedom of the citizen. Fingerprints will be next.—Yours etc., CITIZEN February I, 1974,
