Identification cards

Sir, —Identification cards are one of the hallmarks of the Police State where everyone has to conform to a rule for police purposes. New Zealanders should fight to the last ditch against introducing compulsory carrying of such information, even by drivers as it is only a small step to the next step of non-drivers carrying identification as well. I have just been round the world and seen police methods in many countries and rules which paralyse the majority because of a few criminals socalled. Perhaps even 10 per cent should not be accepted.
