Overcharging alleged
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. A suit bought by D.I.C. Ltd. as part of a job lot at an average price of $26 was marked for sale at $89.95, the Wellington Magistrate’s Court was told. The firm pleaded not guilty to charges laid by the Department of Trade and Industry . (Mr J. H. C. Larsen) of offering a suit for sale at an unreasonably high price (under the Control of Prices Act, 1947) and of acting in contravention of the Stabilisation of Prices Regulations, 1972. Under the second charge, it was claimed that the price was in excess of the intostore price plus markup allowed. Although counsel for the D.1.C., Mr J. T. Eichelbaum, after the prosecution evidence submitted there was no case to answer. Mr I. Hay, S.M., said a prima facie case had been established. After hearing defence evidence, he reserved his decision to February 8.
