Westport stables win Nelson double

(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON. Noble Charles and Debbie Forbes added further lustre to Westport’s impressive record in trotting this season when they carried off the T.A.B. concession double on the first day of the Nelson Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday.

in winning the Nelson Cup, Noble Charles recorded an exceptionally fast time for the testing track at Richmond Park. His 4min 20 3-ssec for the 3200 metres was close, if not better than any time on the track for two miles. His owner-trainer, K. J. Powell, was content to allow his Honest Charles—Maud Noble six-v ear-old gelding to run freely behind the leading bunch into the straight, where he shot through near the furlong to coast home for a comfortable win, his third in succession. Local Beau, which took command after 400 metres, was two lengths clear into the straight, but he had no answer to the ’ Westport pacer’s challenge. He

was more than a length away at the finish, with a further length to another Westport representative, McCreedy, which has been racing consistently. Get Time was close up fourth after being checked in the running, and Even Step battled on for fifth, after racing back on the fence. Debbie Forbes accounted for quite a useful field in the Norwich Handicap, a race for three-year-olds and four-year-olds. The Out to Win filly which is owned and trained by A. J. Rogers, was driven confidently by D. J. Townley. She finished best, holding off strong challenges from Redwood Lass and ’the G. B. Noble representatives, i Bon Heur and Hurrania.
