HEALTH POSTERS
Criticism by professor (W.Z.P..4.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON. A poster campaign in Britain to persuade pregnant : women to stop smoking has been attacked by Professor Philip Burch, of Leeds Unij versify. The posters show a nude pregnant woman about to puff a cigarette. A headline 1 reads: “Is it fair to force your baby to smoke cigarettes? Smoking can restrict your baby's normal growth inside the womb. "It can make him underdeveloped and underweight at birth, which in turn can make him vulnerable to illness in the first delicate weeks of his life. It can even kill him.” Professor Burch said: “The effects of cigarette smoking on the foetus have yet to be fully proved. What concerns many people, however, is the potential effect on the mother of trying to give up smoking suddenly.’’ The posters are part of a campaign by the Health Education Council.
