Princess at garden party

A friendly and relaxed Princess Xnne and her husband, Captain Mark Phillips, chatted freely to the 200 guests at the New Zealand Save the Children Fund garden party at Mona Vale on Saturday.

The Princess, who is Ihe world president of the Save the Children Fund, arrived with her husband from the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games at Queen Elizabeth II Park, and, after spending almost an hour at the garden party, returned to the dosing ceremony. A guard of honour, con-j sisting of about 150 junior l members of the Save the] Children Fund, greeted the Royal Party. Princess Anne; stopped and chatted with! several of the children before! being shown inside Mona 1 Vale, where she met more l guests The Princess and Captain! Phillips were met by the! Minister of Internal Affairs i (Mr May) and Mrs May; Mr! J. D. H. Temple, of Dunedin,! the president of the New Zealand Save the Children! Fund, and Mrs Temple; Mrsj T. L. Fancourt, the immediate l past Dominion president, and Mr Fancourt; and Mrs J. L.i Pearson, the president of the! North Canterbury branch,' and Mr Pearson. After spending a short time! with guests indoors, Princess Anne and Captain Phillips joined the party on the lawn, where they moved freely among the guests chatting in a relaxed and informal manner.

Lime-green dress Princess Anne wore a lime-greeen silk dress and jacket trimmed with white embroidery. The jacket was fitting and came to the waist and fastened with covered buttons. She wore a Spanish-style hat in the same fabric as her dress, which was trimmed with white and featured two white tassels at the back/ Her handbag and shoes were! also white.

The guests at the party were connected with the Save the Children Fund, and included representatives from branches in Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast, and Otago.
