Offer to gunmen spurned
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SINGAPORE, February 3. Four armed guerrillas still holding out aboard a hijacked ferry today resumed negotiations with Singapore and Japanese officials after (apparently spurning a chance to sail away. i The Singapore Government yesterday offered to allow the gunmen—believed to be two (Japanese and two Arabs—to [put to sea in the captured ferry with a full load of fuel land keeping their arms. They 'could also hold on to their [three hostages or take a fresh crew. ! According to unofficial sources, the first reaction of the guerrillas, who have been aboard the ferry Laju since Thursday after an unsuccessful attempt to blow up oil storage tanks at an offshore refinery, was to reject the [Singapore offer. ! They were urged to consider it during the night. There was no immediate word on the result of this morning’s negotiations by radio-telephone. The vessel is anchored about a mile and a half from the shore. The guerrillas claim to be members of the Left-wing Japanese “Red Army” and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
