A 23-year-old English woman, Mrs Gillian Gilks. gained sweet revenge last; evening when she won three badminton gold medals within three hours of com-i petition in Cowles Stadium.! At Edinburgh four years! ago Mrs Gilks won three sil-; ver medals. “After the per-i formance at Edinburgh 1 really wanted to win the gold’ this time.’’ said a delighted Mrs Gilks. She won the women’s! singles, the doubles with Miss I Margaret Beck, and the mixed doubles with Derek Talbot. Mrs Gilks was joined by; her nine team-mates who all, I won a medal at the Games.' It was an impressive sight when six of the team stood on the dais to received the’ mixed doubles medals. The Malaysian. Punch Gunalan.! stopped a clean sweep by England by winning the men’s singles. Miss Beck and Mrs Gilks teamed to beat Mrs Susan' Whetnail and Miss Margaret [Boxall. 15-7, 15-5. in a onesided match.
