STAND-IN STARS
Les Keer, a member of the Christchurch Gun Club, who was brought into the clay pigeon event to make up the third squad of five shooters and thus keep a proper balance, astounded everyone by his performance in the international competition. Aged 69, Kerr broke 93
of his 100 birds and finished equal seventh — three points behind the leaders. A member of the New Zealand Macintosh team seven times, Kerr was 16 points ahead of New Zealand’s second competitor, Jim McKenzie. Kerr’s total, however, will not be considered in the Games scores.
