TROTTING Noble Charles likely in Nelson Cup

A handicap of 2(1 metres is unlikely to stop the Westport pacer, Noble Charles, from taking a prominent part in the finish of the Nelson Cup tomorrow.

Noble Charles, a six-year-old in the Westport team of K. J. Powell, has been lightly raced, having had only five starts this season, with wins over 2600 m at Westport and 2000 m at Reef ton towards the end of December.

There is no reason to doubt! his ability to master 3200 m! on the searching Nelson track] with its long, uphill straight, and it will be a surprise if he fails to race prominently. Westport stables will have a worth-while second string in McCreedy, which has mainly been recognised for his ability as a sprinter. Two starts ago he won over 2600 m at Greymouth, and on January 18 he fought on gamely for third behind Kotare Legend over 3200 m at Addington Raceway. Imasport should be the pick of the others on the trict. He mastered 3200 m with Addington Raceway on December 1. Three starts since then have been fruitless, butj he has had a chance to freshen lately and should be worth consideration in this rather weak field. High Chaparral is owned and trained in the Nelson district. H emastered 3200 m with ease at Addington Raceway on January 24 and this field looks weaker, which should help him. He will have to give away starts of up to 40 metres, but that should not be beyond him, as he is a fine stayer. A win for him would be well received.
