Park board changes
A new board has been appointed to manage the Mount Cook National Park for the next three years. The Acting Minister of Lands (Mr Faulkner) said that membership of the new board was in line with the National Parks Authority’s policy of making a certain number of changes to bring new blood on to a board. The new members are Mr G. Harrow, the joint representative of the Federated Mountain Clubs and the New Zealand Ski Association, and Mr P. L. Squires, of Christchurch.
Members reappointed are [Messrs H. E. Connor, A. M. [Cookson, H. W. Fisher, J. W. ißolleston, E. R. L. O’Toole [and Dr C. G. Riley. : The Commissioner of Crowm Lands, Christchurch (Mr G. Mollett) is chairman. The two retiring members were Messrs J. P. Cook and H. J. Stevenson, and Mr Faulkner said that they had given valuable service to the board. Both had served more than 18 years, having been original members.
After considering recommendations from the National Parks Authority, the Acting Minister of Lands (Mr Faulkner) has appointed a new board to manage the Westland National Park for the next three years. Mr Faulkner said that because of the death of one [member and the retirement of two others, three of the eight appointed were new. The three new members are Mr P. J. Hambleton, Greymouth, Mr J. F. Keenan, Hokitika, and Dr P. Wardle, Christchurch. Existing members reappointed are Messrs J. L. Maitland, P. S. McCormack, L. M. Schaef. M. J. Sullivan, Jnr, and R. C. Western.
Mr Faulkner paid a tribute to the retiring members. Dr H. S. Ray, Mr F. W. Wvatt land the fate Mr J. P. Bohish.
