Pilot's gift to schools
(W.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Jan. 31. The round-the-world solo pilot, Mr C. Tait, of Hamilton, presented New Zealand secondary schools with copies of his book “Flight of the Kiwi.”
The 400 books will provide one copy in each school library.
Mr Tait’s donation, worth about $l7OO, fulfills a promise he made before his record flight around the world in 1969, that he would return money contributed for a flying scholarship. More than $3OO was raised, insufficient to set up the scholarship, and the trustees passed the money on to Mr Tait.
“I feel this is a suitable way to pay everybody back,” he said today.
