Squad for tour
tN.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE.
The Australian cricket selectors handed out few surprises last night when they announced the squad of 14 players to tour New Zealand for a three-test series in February and March. The inclusion of the 19-year-oid left-arm spinner, R. Bright, ahead of such wellperformed players as M. Franke and the experienced T. Jenner is perhaps the only debating point. Otherwise the team, which retains the third test star, G. Dymock, is overflowing with experience. The full squad is: R. Bright (Victoria), G. S. Chappell (Queensland), I. M.
Chappell (South Australia), I. Davis (New South Wales) G. Dymock (Queensland), G. Gilmour (New South Wales), A. Mallett (South Australia), R. Marsh (Western Australia), K. J. O’Keeffe (New South Wales), I. Redpath (Victoria), K. R. Stackpole (Victoria), M. Waiker (Victoria), K. D. Walters (New South Wales), A. Woodcock (South Australia).
The selection of Gilmour, who was forced out of the third test with a bruised heel, and Walker, who was put our by a groin injury is subject to fitness tests. Bright, who just completed his second shield season, has captured 32 wickets [at a cost of 19.40 runs this | summer, and with Gilmour [and Dymock will be the third left-arm bowler in the [touring team. He joins O’Keeffe and Mallett in Australia’s spin attack.
