Bolivian revolt put down
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter — Copyright) COCHABAMBA (Bolivia), January 31. Bolivian troops today appeared to have quelled a farmworkers’ revolt against the Right-wing Government of President Hugo Banzer without major bloodshed. The Information Minister (Mr Guillermo Bulacia) said last night that troops had reopened three main roads out of Cochabamba blocked by farmworkers, and that the situation throughout Cochabamba province was under control. This central city of about 120,000 people was calm last night, although some of the estimated 25,000 rebel farmworkers were reported to be still massed near roads they started barricading last Friday night. But there were no reports of more armed clashes with troops like the one in which eight peasants were killed early yesterday.
