Retirement of editor
Mr Erwin D. Canham, editor-in-chief of the "Christian Science Monitor,” is retiring after nearly 50 years of service. He will have the title of editor emeritus from February 1. Mr Canham joined the newspaper in 1925. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and became the top editorial executive in 1940. He was appointed editor-in-chief in 1964. Mr Canham’s career in public service has included membership in the United States delegation to the United Nations and service on the boards of many national, state, and local institutions. He holds 27 honorary degrees from colleges and universities, and has been honoured by the Governments ol Britain, the German Federal Republic, Brazil, the Netherlands, France, Greece, and Austria.
