Falls cut back recent gains in Australia
Established industrial and mining shares shed more of the recent gains, and only oil issues made any progress on extremely quiet trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. B.H.P. closed at 814 c, 2c lower. Retailers and banks lost ground. Myers was down to 185 c from 186 c previously,
but Woolworths held steady at 98c. Amongst the banks, A.N.Z. was steady at 620 c and the B. was lower at 816 c as was the National at 350 c. C.U.B was unchanged at 265 c but Elders slipped back 3c to 232 c Mining stocks slipped lower. Poseidon was down from 720 c to 710 c and Bougainville fell 2c to 227 c, but C. put on 2c to 352 c and Western Mining was up 3c to 163 c. u • Woodside Burmah gained 11c to 176 c.
