New use for rest room
Undeterred by the notice identifying the building as a "women’s rest room and creche,” young people have been frequenting the building next to the Post Office.
For the last 10 days a room in the building has been used by the City Council as a storing room for packs, and the idea has proved popular with visitors.
About 75 per cent of those who have signed the register in the rooms are Australians. There are also several from Canada, the United Kingdom and other parts of New Zealand. Other visitors include.a Mexican, an Austrian, two Rhodesians, a Swiss and three from the United States.
The supervisor (Mrs E. M. Williams) said yesterday that the council charged 20c a pack for 24 hours. At its busiest the room had 55 packs stored on the two shelves. Most of the young people using the room have been using church halls and guide halls for sleeping.
