WORK ON ‘GAMES REVIEW’
Extra staff at “The Press” are processing mail orders foi “Games Review.” This Is to ensure that ordered copies of the Commonwealth Games colour publication will be dispatched immediately the book comes off the press.
Shown above, checking the first pages of the review, are (from left) Mr L. R. Bloxham, illustrations editor of “The Press,” Mr B. C. Bascand, governing director of Bascand and Company, and Mr Brett de Thier, the company’s art director.
Still more staff would have to be engaged to prepare for the posting of the book, said the acting manager of The Christchurch Press Company (Mr R. A. Barker) last evening. “The orders are coming In at the rate of thousands a day,” he said. The first sections of the
book, reporting early events in the Games, are already being printed. This means that the number of books for sale cannot be increased. Orders from dairies and book-sellers throughout New Zealand will be met; but the company is satisfied that it can still satisfy the growing demand for mailed copies.
The book, formally endorsed by the Games Organising Committee as the official pictorial record, will have pictures of every sport, and it already includes colour pictures of many exciting incidents. The book contains no advertising, and the company is paying a proportion of its costs to the Games fund.
Colour presses at Bascands, Ltd, are running almost continuously to bring the book out by Monday morning, less than two days after the Games end.
