Games traffic
Sir, —Several reports have complimented the authorities on the smooth flow of the traffic leaving Queen Eliza, beth II Park, giving the impression that all Christchurch citizens are happy with it. This was not my experience on Tuesday evening when my car was stopped stationary in New Brighton Road just north of the Bower Bridge for 45 minutes. Admittedly there was a capacity crowd at the stadium but the ineffectiveness, inability and inexperience of the traffic officers was woefully exposed. Any idiot can keep traffic flowing in one direction but when this is at the expense of the complete blocking out of people trying to get to their homes after a day’s work, this leaves a lot to be desired and accurate publicity should be given to this other side of the picture.—Yours, etc., N.R.D. January 30, 1974.
