COMMERCIAL U.E.B. sells part of protein co.
(Neu> Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, January 29. U.E.B. Industries, Ltd. lias sold a 40 per cent shareholding in U.E.B. (Marlborough) Protein, Ltd, to the Lactose Company (N.Z.), Ltd, the directors of U.E.B. Protein have reported.
The Lactose Company is subsidiary of Unigate, Ltd, of England. The joint company will run the lucerne processing plant at Blenheim and Onga-
jonga, Hastings, and will; ultimately use by-products; from the Lactose milk-sugar factory at Kapuni and Edendale, Southland. Its objectives will be to expand production and ex--ports of high protein stock' foods and to develop protein production for human consumption. In a joint statement, the' chairman of U.E.B. (Sir James Doig) and the chairman of Lactose (Mr M. G. Barnett) said that prospects were excellent and combined shareholding would offer substantial advantages to both partners. International demand fori high protein stock foods was! increasing rapidly, and export prices were'rising. The (company would also be ideally ’ based to serve the inevitable. demand for protein for' human diet supplements, they 'said.
