PORT OF SPAIN' (Trinidad). With only five days to the first test match against the (West Indies, the M.C.C.’s seliection problems remained uu|resolved after the first dav (of their match against Trini(dad at Port of Spain yester (day when it scored 239 runs for seven wickets after winning the toss. Much of the M.C.C.’s batting was inconsistent and unconvincing, and clearlv they found it hard to adjust to a pitch assisting the spin bowlers, and sometimes variable in bounce, after making four for 511 on a plumb wicket hi its last game. The day’s play also emphasised just how much depends on G. Boycott. B. D. Julien, in a good. 80-minute opening spell, found a gap between bat and pad to bowl him for only nine, and the innings always seemed insecure after that. Scores:
; M.C.C. 239/7 (A. V. Grev 64 not out. F. Haves 47. D. L. Amiss 34; P. C. S. Bartholomew 2/47, Imtiaz Air 2/55).
