Gliding titles go to former champions
'.X.Z. Press .Association—Copyright* ADELAIDE. H. Reichmann, of West Germany, and G. Moffatt, of the United States, both former title-holders, won the world gliding standardclass and open championships respectively at Waikerie during the week-end.
Reichmann, aged 33, a school teacher, flew an experimental LS2 glider, built in Germany for Australian conditions. The glider will be returned to the German factory for checking. Reichmann on Saturday competed against 38 competitors on a 247-kilometre triangle, finishing third. It gave him sufficient points to defeat the Australian hope, 1. Renner, by 27 points. In the open class, G. Mof-
fat, in a Nimbus 2, established himself as one of the great glider pilots. He finished in third place on Saturday, and his winning margin on aggregate points was one of the biggest in a work! gliding championship. Moffat and Reichman won; their section at the world : championships in 1970. N.Z. PILOTS Of the New Zealand: entrants, R. Gordon finished fifth in the standard-class aggregate, with 9056 points, and A. Cameron was sixth, I with 8887 points.
