Hockey uniform for tournament
The uniform to he worn by the tournament executive and officials at the international hockey tournament in Christchurch next month has been shown for the first time.
Modelling the uniform in the photograph is Mr M. Howman, the assistant tournament director. It consists of a black blazer with a gold monogram incorporating the tournament symbol.
The shirt is light blue, and the tie dark blue with the tournament symbol in gold printed on it. The shirt is interchangeable with a light blue, roll-neck skivvie for cooler weather and the evenings. Grey slacks and black shoes complete the uniform.
During the tournament the organisers will be selling 580 T-shirts with the symbol printed in green. Mr Howman said that about 800 were wanted, but the organisers were only able to obtain 580. The tournament symbol has two sticks, one on top of the other. The top and smaller stick represents the controlled game played by Asian and Australasian teams and the longer stick represents the defensive, and sometimes robust game of the European nations.
Above the hook of the sticks is a circle representing a hockey ball, and inside it a map of New Zealand. MATCHES International men’s hockey will be played in Masterton next month for the first time, the Press Association reported. New Zealand will play Canada on February 2 and Poland on February 4. The Pakistan hockey team has left Karachi for Singapore on its way to Christchurch for the international tournament. The Pakistani team will play four international matches against Australia during its trip.
