Investment increased

Private capital expenditure in Australia showed a healthy rise during the September quarter this year, but spending is still not back to the levels of 1970-71. I Figures released by the Australian statistician showed (total private investment in | the September quarter of ) 1973-74 to be $753.2m, a rise |of $65.3m on the June quarter. I But the figures, which are iseasonally adjusted, are well below the sB67m in the June iquarter of 1970-71. Mining investment in parIticular, has fallen sharply. In the September quarter of 1971-72, investment in mine equipment, other than buildings was, on a seasonally adjusted basis $131.1m. The adjusted figures for the September quarter of 1973-74 showed investment of only $57.8m. Capital investment, other than on buildings, in manufacturing was s2o9m in the September quarter this year, against $203.8m in the same quarter of the previous year.)
