Mercedes wins
Mercedes has been awarded the first international car of the year award to be announced under a scheme sponsored by major European publications, Reuter reports from London. The awards are made by a panel of 45 journalists. The winning car was the Mercedes 450, which sells in Britain for the equivalent of about $21,000. Second place was awarded to the new Fiat X-19 sportscar, which is not expected to be sold in New Zealand,
i and third place went to the Japanese Honda Civic 1200, which has been available in I New Zealand for several months. The international award scheme is organised by the ■ “London Daily Telegraph”; i magazine, “Stern” of Ger-' many, “L’Equipe” of France, <‘Vi Bilagare” of Scandinavia, “Quattroroute” < of Italy, and “Autovisie” of I ■ the Netherlands. i The 4.5-litre V 8 Mercedes; gained 115 points, to the Fiat’s 99, and the Honda’s 90.
