CATHEDRAL BELLS Plain Bob for the Games

A quarter-peal of Plain Bob Royal was played by 10 members of the Cathedral Society of Bell Ringers in Cathedral Square last evening to mark the opening of the Games. Starting at 7 p.m., and involving 1260 changes, the quarter-peal lasted 48 minutes.

The Cathedral bells will also be rung throughout the Games and for the closing ceremony of the Games. The 10 bell ringers (in ascending order of weight of bell) were: Tessa Hollis, M. M. Clayton. C. H. Ward, R. H. Idle, P. J. Perry, J. H. Gardner, N. F. Reeve, R. J. Johnston (conductor). R. J. Stevens and A. P. Whitehead.
