U.K. scientists’ pay surveyed

( An official survey of more! 1 than 28,300 full-time scien- ; tists in Britain has disclosed ■■ that those under 35—almost half of those polled—are largely at the lower end of> the income range: only 6 per; cent were earning more than! £3OOO a year when the sur-l vey was taken in 1971, and! 38 per cent of the older: group were earning less! than that figure . j More than half of all pro-! fessional scientists were employed in industry. One-fifth of them earned more than £4OOO a year, and twic,e that number held managerial or administrative posts.
