It is estimated that the Canterbury division of the New Zealand Institute of Management will by the end of the year, be within $3OOO to $4OOO of meeting its financial committments towards the cost of Management House, its new premises in Madras Street which were opened six months ago. In a report tabled at the last divisional council meeting, the house manager (Mr V. C. Lazell) said there had been an appreciable improvement both in member participation and in the standard of training since the opening of the new premises. During the year the Canterbury division held 59 training courses attended by 942 persons, while attendance at institute meetings, functions, and courses had exceeded 2000. The cost of the site and the purchase of the adjacent building for future development. together with the cost of building and equipping Management House, amounted to $Bl,OOO. Gifts received and promised by members amounted to $21,000, and $13,000 would have been found from the operating surpluses over the last five years, said Mr Lazell.
