Further ’mini blitz’ in Ashburton area
A second “mini traffic blitz” by one of the patrols set up by the Transport Department in an attempt to improve the standard of driving in Mid and South Canterbury, is expected in the Ashburton area “any day.”
The senior traffic officer, with the Ministry of Trans-1 ’port in Ashburton (Mr A. S.| jDando) said that the patrols! I were instructed to concen-] itrate on a small area of the county for several hours at a time. Methven, Mayfield, or Rakaia could be among the recipients of such a blitz, said Mr Dando. During the Commonwealth Games period Ashburton traffic officers will be rostered for duty in Christchurch for
■•one-day periods. There will I also be a reinforcement of .1 local patrols, officers further i south assisting in traffic • I supervision of the area. The Games have also been responsible for changes in ■ Ashburton police shifts. Police will be rostered on a four- , week shift instead of the usual five-week shift.
