Defence of N.Z. films

The attitude in New Zealand towards locallyproduced films was criticised by a film maker, Paul Kennedy, in Hamilton. Mr Kennedy is working on an adventure series for colour television, set in the Rotorua area. He said talent was available in New Zealand for first-class films, but all people did was criticise the quality of present productions.

People with talent were given neither backing, encouragement nor time to achieve anything.

“There is a reluctance to support new ventures with anything but cynicism,” he said.

Mr Kennedy said he expected to start filming in February.
