Pool nearly ready

The Centennial Pool should be ready for use in three weeks, five months after the original completion date. The swimming pool at Queen Elizabeth II Park had first preference for many fittings which were in short supply, said Mr P. Williamson, a director of W. Williamson Company, Ltd, which is reconstructing the Centennial Pool. The enforced wait for equipment had delayed the completion date, said Mr Williamson.

His firm was trying to have the pool complex finished bv the end of the month. Work remaining included the painting of the pools, construction of an

outside fence, the hanging of some doors, laying of turf, and testing.

A spokesman for the consulting engineers, Lovell-Smith, Sullivan and Associates, said the final cost of construction was not expected to exceed the estimate of $507,817. The tender price of $478,817 bad been increased in August by $29,000.
