Thiess finds more coal

A new 300 million ton deposit of high quality hard ’coking coal has been outlined ■by Thiess Peabody Mitsui Coal Pty, Ltd, in the Nebo area of Queensland. Feasibility studies have begun on a s3oom mining project which would produce about 10 million tons of export coal a year. The new discovery is in addition to the already reported 200 million tons of measured reserves outlined for opencut mining in the Nebo area and substantial inferred reserves for underground mining.

Thiess Holdings, Lid, is a 22 per cent shareholder in .the joint company. The United States-owned Peabody Coal Company, a ■ Kennecott subsidiary, has a 58 per cent interest and ■Japanese-owned Mitsui and ! Company the remaining 20 per cent.
