Seeded beaten in under 17 tennis

P. Kapua (Rotorua) upset calculations on the first day of the New Zealand age tennis championships at Stanley Street late this afternoon when she disposed of the Aucklander. Heather Lobb.

Miss Lobb, who waf seeded second in the under--17 girls’ singles, was beaten. 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, by the unseeded Miss Kapua. There was a hint of a more dramatic upset in the under--17 boys’ singles when L. MeGillvray (Canterbury) took the opening set from P Hampton, also of Canterbury, who is a strong favourite tc win the title. Hampton, however, soon assumed the command he was expected to and won 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. All play today was in the under-17 section, The under--15 championships start or Wednesday.
