OPEN FOR TOURS
Lyttelton’s timeball signal station—one of only three left in the world (pictured)—will be opened for public tours at the week-end immediately preceding the Commonwealth Games and, dependant upon the success of the weekend, might be open on each night of the Games. This was announced yesterday by the Lyttelton Maritime Association, which administers the timeball station for the Historic Places Trust. Members of the association will guide small parties through the station and explain historical details and the significance of the station. On each of the two days on which the station will definitely be open, tours will be taken during a twohour period from 2 p.m. A special consideration for the station is the lack of parking for vehicles in Reserve Terrace, and the public will be asked to walk to the timeball station from convenient parks elsewhere in Lyttelton.
