Singing duo may visit New Zealand
f.V Z P .4. Stall Correspondent) LONDON. January 6. A husband-and-wife singing duo who admit to being “mutual fans’’ hope to make a concert tour of New Zealand next year. They are the Dannevirkesoprano, Alexandra Gordon, a member of the Scottish Opera Company since 1970. and the English tenor, Vernon Midgeley. Midgeley is widely known among music lovers m Britain for his radio and television broadcasts. The couple, with their baby daughter. Juliet Louise, plan to visit New Zealand for a holiday in February or
March, 1975, and are; negotiating for a series of! concerts. They will also make broadcasts with the N.Z.B.C. Miss Gordon, a pupil of Dame Mary Leo, of Auckland. for five years, joined the New Zealand Opera Company when she was 19. In 1966. she came to London and won a Friends of Covent Garden Scholarship to study! at the London Opera Centre 1 for two years. With the Scottish Opera ’ ■ Company, she has earned a reputation for her protrayal r of the difficult part of Queen . of the Night in Mozart’s “The r Magic Flute” — a role she! r will sing 36 times this year. 1
