The English Commonwealth Games representatives took the first three placings in the first stage of the Mansfield aggregate shoot at the national rifle championships at Trentham on Saturday. Shooting in the unfamiliar and difficult south-easterly winds, J. Spaight, W. Magnay and K. Pilcher all indicated their prowess w’ith good markmanship. Spaight scored two possibles and 10 centre bullseyes over the 800 and 900yard targets, Magnay, the team captain, had two possibles and five centres, and Pilcher recorded a possible and a 49 with five centres in his outings. The only New Zealander to finish in the first seven was M. Judkins (Blenheim), who was fifth.
