Cartoon strip
A new cartoon strip. “The Genius,” which will be printed each Monday, appears in “The Press” for the first time today.
It Is the work of an American. Dick Oldden. who has been a cartoonist for the “New Yorker” for several years, and whose work has appeared regu larly in leading American magazines, such as the “Saturday Review." and “Esquire."
Oldden is known in the United States also for his expertise in one of the country's most exotic sports — kendo, or Japanese fencing. He studied the martial art in Tokyo for a year and later captained a United States team which defeated a Canadian team. The central character In the strip is the professor, constantly trying to cope with computers, ecology, and Women’s Lib. The other characters are his chief assistant, Fritz. Mildred, a laboratory assistant and a supporter of Women’s Lib., and Jim. the professor's junior assistant, who is disenchanted with the Establishment.
The strip appears today on page 13.
