Magic Touch likely Gold Cup winner

"The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. The latest form of Magic Touch has put her In the top bracket of South Island racemares and she is likely to win the Invercargill Gold Cup, first leg of the Southland T.A.B. double, today. E. A. Winsloe has developed Magic Touch into a fine stayer, as she clearly demonstrated when she ran her stablemate, Hedlo. to a head in the Dunedin Gold Cup, She confirmed that form by easily beating Brown Satin in the President’s Handicap at Invercargill on Wednesday. She is up 2.5 kg to 54.5 in the Gold Cup but will meet Redlo on slightly better terms than when he beat her at Wingatui. Redlo. like Magic Touch, is also trained by Winsloe, who is also a part-owner of both. Redlo showed marked ability as a three-year-old, when he was placed in the Riverton Cup, but it is only as a six-year-old now that he has come right back to form.

Mellay Vite, which earlier in the season won the Metropolitan Handicap at Rlccarton, failed in the Dunedin Cup but she should not be written off on that account. She is one of the proven stayers in the field and her ability to settle anywhere in the field will be in her favour in what is usually a patchilyrun race.

Although Magic Touch beat her decisively on Wednesday, it

would not do to overlook Brown Satin's chance. She is to be ridden by G. W. Wright, who has a fine record in the race, having won it seven times.
