Long-distance call
A traffic officer’s call for assistance at an accident on the Coast Road between Greymouth and Westport reached the Greymouth police via Wellington.
Traffic Officer B. Manley. I of Greymouth, came upon the [ accident, scene four miles! I north of Punakaiki on Thurs-[ ;day. His radio call was not| i heard in Greymouth but wasj picked up on the citizen’s' (band by a man in East- ‘ bourne, Wellington. He i alerted the Wellington police, j who, in turn, contacted Grey-' mouth.
A police constable was sent to the scene of the head-on collision. A woman, Mrs Julie Cavaney, of Dunedin, received [stitches above an eye, but 'the other two people involved in the accident were uninjured. Both cars were extensively damaged.
