Extra shopping night

Christchurch City retail shops will be open for latenight shopping on both January 24 and January 25.

The extension of hours would be of service to visitors, since January 24 was the only night of the Commonwealth Games on which no events would be held, said the president of the Canterbury and Westland Retailers’ Association (Mr E. J. McGregor) yesterday. But as it was an additional night, shop assistants would be paid overtime rates, he said. Other areas within a 20mile radius of Christchurch City and controlled by local business associations would no doubt be making their own announcements on lateshopping arrangements, Mr McGregor said.

I Lamb kill.—The Fairfield '^k ng , works has killed 113,000 fewer lambs so far this season than in the corresponding part of the last season This is attributed to stock losses in the August snow storm. However, 9000. more ewes have been .slaughtered.
