WOMEN’S CRICKET
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND.
A dramatic batting collapse by Auckland for a mere 19 runs put Wellington into an almost unassailable position in the Hallyburton Johnstone women’s cricket series.
Wellington, with a first innings lead of 55 runs, made a good declaration, but Auckland folded up unaccountably, for its lowest score in many years.
Otago, left to score 188 runs in 120 minutes by North Shore, was content to play out time, but Shore had other ideas and gained its first outright win. Wellington 201 and 178/4 dec. (B. Bevege 63, P. McKelvey 41 not out. J Saulbrey 34). Auckland 146 and 19 (M. Dunlop 5/8, Saulbrey 3/10). North Shore 232 and 124/7 dee. (E. Cooper 46, J. McConway 4/45), Otago 169 and 69 (L. Dickey 6/11). Points.—Wellington 32, Auckland 25, North Shore 24. Canterbury 21, Otago 21.
