NEW ZEALANDER DIES IN PARIS
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Jan. 3. A New Zealander holding the Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour has died in Paris, aged 76. He was Geoffrey Ernest Henry' Gotz, brother of a former Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leon Gotz).
Mr Gotz was born in Tauranga and educated at King’s and Wanganui colleges and Canterbury University. He left New’ Zealand at the age of 18 to join the French Army where he rose to the ;rank of captain bv the end of World War I. At the outbreak of World War 11 he was liaison officer, between the French and: British armies, and later he served in the underground: ; forces in Paris, rising to colonel. It was for his service to: the French Army in the two' wars that he was given the Chevalier of the French Le-, ,'gion of Honour,
Mr Gotz has lived in Paris since World War I. He represented New Zealand on the Davis Cup Committee and was three times runner-up in the French Amateur Golf Championship.
He is survived by his wife,) Consuello de Gramedo.
