D. Wylie in top form

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. D. Wylie, of Christchurch, had a field day in the Marlboro international motor-cycle races at Pukekohe on Saturday. He scored three wins in three starts and set a lap record on a 500 c.c. Suzuki, one of only two machines of its model in the world, beating top riders from the United States, Australia and Indonesia along with the best New Zealanders.

Wylie began with a clearcut win in the first race of the day, from the Cambridge rider. T. Discombe (Yamaha TZ3SO) and the Australian, M. Sayle (Yamaha TZ3SO). The tragic first round of the Marlboro event in which the American rider, C. Rayborn, was fatally injured, saw Wylie win again. After the Raybom crash the race was stopped, and in the rerun Wylie led R. Grant of the United States (Suzuki 750) and Discombe when the race was stopped after 19 of the 20 scheduled laps when there was another crash. The second round went the full 20 laps and Wylie won again after Molloy had led for 13 laps. Discombe beat Molloy for second. The Wylie-Molloy duels were a feature of the two rounds and in the first Wylie set a lap of 1 minute 12.2 seconds.
