School to close
The South Malvern School, at Whitecliffs, will close its doors for the last time tomorrow after 90 years of service.
The school, which opened on January 15, 1883, with 36 pupils has to close because it has only eight pupils. These pupils will now travel to the Glentunnel School, two miles away.
Mr J. Barry, the sole teacher, said the school held a reunion on March 17, and it was known then that the school might have to close. The pupils will hold a small concert today, followed by a visit from Santa Claus.
South Malvern was once a large community with coalmining, a railway, and pottery works.
