SCHOOL BUS SIGNS
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 19. The Public Passenger Transport Association today gained extra dispensation for school bus firms which cannot meet the new rules for school bus signs which come into force on February 1. The new rules, which are being introduced at the suggestion of coroners and magistrates, require school buses to carry a bigger and brighter sign, mounted six feet above the ground. A dispensation for sft 6in was proposed by the association, but it told the Minister of Transport (Sir Basil Arthur) today that because of stop lights, air vents, and bracket problems, some buses could not meet even this reduced requirement. The Minister and his staff then agreed that local i arrangements could be made; between bus firms and chief vehicle inspectors to mount the signs as high as possible within the spirit of the regulations.
