Since the beginning of April, inquiries handled by the New Zealand High Commission in London have reached 71,849 — an Increase of nearly 23,000
since April, except August, the statistics have been well up on the 1972 rate. August figures, down fractionally at 6419, were compensated by a more than doubled September figure of 13,705.
October brought almost 15,000 inquiries, and last month almost 11,000. Emigration inquiries are believed also to be up at the Australian and Canadian high commissions in London.
The Netherlands, in spite of its problems with the Arab oil-producing nations, is facing nothing like the economic chaos which has developed in Britain, and inquiries from would-be emigrants to New Zealand are at the normal level.
