The New Zealander, Onny Parun, would win §4700 for fifteenth place in this year’s Commercial Union grand prix tennis contest.
The tournament at present; being held in Christchurch is one of the last of the whole j circuit, and the ninth, and| final, of the Asian-Pacific! circuit. With only two touma-| ments remaining (Johannes-1 burg and South America),! the Rumanian, I. Nastase, is;
assured of $36,000 as the first prize from the total jstake of $246,000. I Parun will not now finish lin the top eight and qualify for the masters’ tournament iin Boston, but he has I sufficient points to be [fifteenth. ■ The leading points winner |in the Benson and Hedges tournament is the West Gerjman, J. Fassbender, who is I twenty-sixth with 108. I The top 35 players will participate in the prize money. I P. Gerken (United States), also in the Christchurch tournament, is thirty-second, with 94 points. He will be seeking to maintain this place which carries $2OOO. B. Gottfried (United States) is twenty-eighth with 103 points. Tennis.—The New Zealander, O. Parun, went down in three sets to the South African, R. Moore, in the second round of the Dewar indoor tournament at Nottingham yesterday. Moore won 4-6, 6-4. 6-2.
