DEPOSITS STUDIED
1 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. The Minister for the Enr vironment (Mr Walding) is ’ examining proposals for J high deposits on glass conI tainers and deposits on j plastic containers, to deal t with a litter problem. At the presentation of I plastics industry design > awards in Wellington this evening, Mr Walding said that schemes must be deI vised to ensure no con- ■ tainers were left lying i around. “Admittedly, I i would rather stand on a i plastic bottle at the beach than a beer bottle, but this 1 is no answer,” Mr Walding ' said. Research being done on the development of bioi degradable plastic contain- ■ ers was pleasing, he said. “This is a laudable approach. It will offer the advantages of plastics as a packaging agent. But when discarded, packages will not present a disposal problem.” -
