The Western Samoa Treasury will issue a commemorative $1 coin to honour the Commonwealth Games at Christchurch. The 39mm coin will be struck in cupro nickel, and the obverse (above), designed by Mr James Berry, Wellington, shows two Samoan boxers. The reverse shows the Western Samoa coat of arms. The minting will be 40,000, to be sold in rigid plastic cases, and the issue date is expected to be December 1. The cost will be $2, and the coins may be obtained at the Bank of New Zealand branches.
