• University of i Sth Pacific f (A'.Z. Press Association) I WELLINGTON. ; The Carnegie Foundation, ■ of New York, has made a grant of $U5323.220 to the i; University of the South Pacific. in Suva. The university’s vice-chan-[cellor (Dr C. C. Aikman) said in a statement received :in Wellington that the /grant would allow for the of two '“centres.” and the development and diversification of ‘the present three centres. Centres were established at i Tarawa, Honiara and Nuku’ ialofa after a Carnegie grant of $149,000 in 1970. They provide a local information service and help for students undertaking external courses by correspondence. They also provide an advisory service Ito governments. j Dr Aikman said the grant I included provision for continuing a satellite communiI cation project. It would also imake it possible to establish (the first five of a series of | external study areas, consisting of library materials, j films, etc., designed to supplement basic material prepared from the campus for Istudents undertaking external study courses.
