Simmental $25,000

A Christchurch businessman. Mr B. D. Blogg, has bought a Simmental heifer calf, just over six months old. from the Richmond Simmental Stud. Broomfield, Amberley, for $25,000. This was announced tn Christchurch this week by Wrightson NMA Ltd. The calf is thought to be the first purebred Simmental to be born in New Zealand, apart from calves bom as a result from ovum transplants. Mr Blogg said last evening tnat he had bought the calf for use in the future as a donor of ova at the commercial ovum transplant unit which is being established at the South Island Breeding Centre, at Kaiapoi. Mr Blogg is associated with Mr R. G. Macdonald in the transniant project. It is hoped that the first transplant operations will be made early next month. . At Mittagong, in New South Wales, last Saturday, a purebred Simmental bull calf was sold on behalf of Mr Macdonald to the Tenderloin Stud. Western Australia, for $22,500. It was aged about four months.
